Aw, Maan. You will be missed.

TV5 report on Maan’s death as relayed by a friend, Frau Olavario.

UP wins a convincing first set over UE. 25-13.

I do hope they continue this good showing. The funny thing is that the libero isn’t even inside the court.

Let’s get that first win, guys!

It’s either maganda laro ng UP or pangit laro ng Ateneo or both.

Either way, maganda ang pinapakita ng UP sa 2nd set.

Let’s go!

Details:

  • Where: Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym
  • Entrance Fee: I don’t know. But, most probably lower than 100 pesos.
  • Time: I plan to watch the men’s games too. So start ng 9AM until 6PM. :D May Katipunan naman for lunch.
  • Who will play: (M) UE-DLSU, UP-NU (W) UE-Ateneo, UP-Adamson

I’m watching since both UP teams are playing. I want to see the UP men’s team (because I wasn’t able to see them last Sunday) and I want the UP women’s team to bounce back.

Or, pwede din this Saturday since exciting lahat ng games:

  • Where: The Arena
  • Entrance Fee: 100 pesos.
  • Time: I plan to watch the men’s games too. So start ng 9AM until 6PM. :D
  • Who will play: (M) DLSU-UST, Ateneo-NU (W) UP-FEU, Ateneo-DLSU

Saw this on Twitter.
This just means that there’s an 8 point average difference between UP and La Salle.
Talk about dominating the competition.

That awkward moment during the Cheerdance Competition when you have to pee during the competition itself.

You just cannot not love that crowd.

Fanart for the ever-so-awesome UP Pep squad! Whoever designed your costumes and over-all concept is a GENIUS. Congrats on the back to back championship :)

Definitely a fan art worth reblogging. :)

UP Pep Squad 2011 UAAP Cheerdance Competition Routine

Something I can’t get enough of. I’m so proud, you guys.

I was actually feeling goosebumps when other schools (FEU and NU) were chanting UP and the Unibersidad cheer before the announcement of the champion.

Thank you guys.

And when UST was joining in the Unibersidad cheer before the UP Pep Squad performed.

Such good sports.

Also, to the UP crowd for joining in the Go USTe cheer before the UST SDT performed.

Classy, classy act people.

Pagandahan ba ng wave? Paglakarin namin si Shamcey, baka ma-tsunami kayo.
Overheard During the 2011 UAAP Cheerdance Competition

I was a bit skeptical about watching it live since I had no means of securing tickets. But, thanks to @dalecute, I was able to get one! I owe you!

I arrived at the venue at past 12 and my other friends are already lined up so I went to the end of the line. Nakakahiya naman kasing sumingit. When it was nearly 1PM, the gates were opened and the crowd was cheering. Crowd control this year was a lot better than last year. People knew where to line up. However, it’s just that UP, UST and FEU supporters were entering through one gate. Is this a management decision or students can line up wherever regardless of the seating arrangement?

Anyway.

It was a long wait to 3PM but the competition was way worth it.

Adamson Pep Squad

I liked the idea of toys. They really had a strong start but one pyramid error later, everything went awry. Their routine went downhill from the point when they failed to complete a pyramid - formation was messy and synchronization was a problem.

Ateneo de Manila University Blue Babble Batallion

I am really disappointed. After they made waves last 2009, they fail to live up to people’s expectations. They had costly mistakes despite the good choreography. The flying carpet, like 2009’s moonwalk, was a hit! Their opening music reminded me of Joshua and Katie from SYTYCD.

National University Pep Squad

Go Matadors! Definitely an improvement from last year. We never expected their performance and it was a really pleasant surprise. I heard they acquired new and hardcore coaches and we saw the effects of such investment. Their routine has a chance to take a spot in the top three.

De La Salle University Animo Squad

Technically, they’re on the upper half of the heap. They just lack the choreography to complement their technical skills. This year was a lot different. They seemed to have gone over that obstacle and able to perform really well. Cleanliness is key if ever they could get a podium finish.

University of the Philippines Pep Squad

SWAG! One of UP’s strengths is to use a theme and build every part of the routine around it. Everything’s just cohesive but it doesn’t look tacky and pilit. It was real high-level cheerdance with cleanliness to go with the difficulty. What makes it more amazing is that people doesn’t realize it’s difficult because of how easy the UP Pep makes it look like. The crown has high defenses so the other teams needs to step it up.

Far Eastern University Cheering Squad

Still, stunt-heavy. The choreography isn’t enough. Seriously, a difficult routine doesn’t have to be messy. But, as always, National Gymnastics Team members are an asset. They have the skills to do this and nobody can doubt that. I was a bit worried about them. However, they made crucial errors. If not for those errors, they could’ve gone up to second.

University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe

Seriously, Salinggawi should train on skills. Other squads are catching up and/or have surpassed them in terms of technical gymnastics skills. Their saving grace is their masterful choreography which is ever so fun to watch. This year was a tribute to their 400th founding anniversary. It needed a lot more spunk instead of just basing it on tradition. The routine was slow and so is the transition. And, a little too basic.

University of the East Pep Squad

Definitely better than last year. Just keep improving.

After everybody performed my ranking was:

  1. UP
  2. DLSU/FEU/UST
  3. DLSU/FEU/UST
  4. DLSU/FEU/UST
  5. NU
  6. Ateneo
  7. Adamson
  8. UE

Awarding was another fun part of the competition. When a UP Pep Squad member won the Samsung Stunner award, the crowd was cheering “matalino na, maganda pa”. After Shamcey Supsup, I don’t think anyone could contest that.

It was a sweep of sorts. We beat out UE 2007 because we swept the competition and actually won. HAHAHA.

I definitely missed this crowd. I miss the UAAP. I miss being a student. Next year, we’re gunning for a three-peat and a share of the “Team with the most titles” award.

I am one proud alumnus.

UNIBERSIDAD NG PILIPINAS!

aecomismo:

…ay Audience Impact.

honestly. para sakin. kung ikukumpara sa ibang schools, parang super mas konti ang mga supporters ng NU. pero ako, honestly, aside from UP, inaabangan ko ang NU. last year kasi, super nag improve sila. and kanina, nag improve muli sila. kanina nga, malinis yung routine nila. wala akong nakitang bumagsak na stunts. pero 6th lang sila. ineexpect ko kasi ay pang 4th or 5th sila. or even 3rd. mga ganun. ay ewan.

I don’t think so.

NU’s crowd was actually bigger than La Salle’s. Audience impact or participation is just 10 or 20 points of the possible 100.
